5 Tips for Navigating Change
In a period of instability, global crises and unprecedented upheaval, one thing remains constant, change will take place. The question is, how will YOU manage this change. As a coach my role is to actively listen and question. Are you comfortable with change? Do you embrace change or do you avoid change? How much change can you handle? We all have varying degrees of tolerance, my threshold will be different from your threshold. How do we navigate this change so that we can address it from a place of acceptance and curiosity?
Is your organisation restructuring for the new year? Often times companies use the end of the year as a time to evaluate, refocus, and/or restructure for a successful 1st quarter. This in turn can leave one unsettled and uncertain of what is to come. Below are 5 tips to navigate this change:
What is in your control right now? Have a look at your current role. What is being asked of you? Are you satisfied with your performance?
What areas will the company focus on next year? Familiarise yourself with your business environment, seek a mentor, internal and external. Unsure of where the chips will fall? Align yourself with a senior mentor who can guide you in the ways of the business.
Sit with discomfort. No one likes to be uncomfortable, but it is what we do with the discomfort that can make the difference.
Have a look at your values - your corporate values and personal values, are they aligned? How so? Why not?
Lastly, what scares you about this change? Pinpoint the root cause, name it and work through how you will manage this change. What does this change look like? How will it impact me? What can I do to embrace this change?
